Father Gregory Boyle Founder of Homeboy Industries. He was asked if he believed he was an entrepreneur, at that point in his life he just wanted to stop the gang violence between the gangs in California. He believes it is easier to start an organization that is non-profit meaning the company doesn't take any of the proceeds. He is an active priest in his community that helps x gang members forget their past and start over. This is similar to my project because he is trying to help the less fortunate. These gang members are born into gangs and have very few options.
- What are 3 takeaways you have from the podcast? Explain in detail.
The first thing I took away from this podcast was the interviewer's questions. They were all easy for Father Doyle to answer. No questions that surprised him or made him shudder. The interviewer Guy Raz was very straightforward, which made the podcast interesting.
The second thing I took away from the podcast was Father Doyle's commitment to his organization. Guy Raz asked him if he was making a profit from the bakers. He said no, 100% of the proceeds go towards the gang violence in California.
The third thing I took away from this podcast was how they were reforming former gang members. They weren't debilitating them or putting them in jail. Instead, they hired them at a bakery so they could have a steady income. Former gang members were working with each other that used to be rival gangs. Father Doyle brought them together through baking.
